How to Remove Grass Stains From Clothes

Stain solutions

Grass stains are common after outdoor play, sports, and gardening. Treating them before washing gives fabric the best chance of coming clean.

1. Treat the stain before washing

Do not put the garment straight into the washer. Apply a small amount of suitable laundry detergent directly to the stain first.

2. Work the detergent in gently

Use your fingers or a soft brush to work the detergent into the fabric. Be gentle with delicate materials and avoid harsh scrubbing.

3. Rinse with cool water

Rinse from the back of the stain with cool water. This helps push the grass pigment out rather than further into the fibres.

4. Wash and check before drying

Wash according to the care label. Check the stained area before drying, since heat can set any remaining mark.

Spotluma tip

For white or delicate garments, test any stain treatment in a hidden spot first and follow the fabric-care label carefully.
