How to Remove Limescale From Taps and Showerheads

Bathroom care

Limescale is mineral buildup left behind when hard water dries. It often appears as a chalky film on taps, shower glass, and showerheads.

1. Identify the surface

Check whether the item is chrome, stainless steel, brass, natural stone, or another material. Use only a cleaner that is safe for that finish.

2. Apply a suitable cleaner

Follow the product label and allow the cleaner time to work. Never mix products, and ensure the room is well ventilated.

3. Wipe gently

Use a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge to lift softened buildup. Avoid abrasive pads that can scratch metal finishes and glass.

4. Rinse and dry

Rinse thoroughly with clean water, then dry with a microfibre cloth. Drying helps prevent new water spots from forming.

Spotluma tip

Do not use acidic descalers on natural stone unless the product specifically confirms it is safe for stone.
