Bathroom care
Soap scum is the dull film that builds up when soap, body oils, and minerals in water dry on bathroom surfaces. Regular light cleaning is usually easier than one heavy scrub.
What you will need
- A soft microfibre cloth or non-scratch sponge
- Warm water
- A bathroom cleaner suitable for your surface
- A dry cloth for the final wipe
1. Start with the right surface
Check whether you are cleaning glass, ceramic tile, acrylic, natural stone, or metal. Use a product that is safe for that material and follow its label instructions.
2. Let the cleaner work
Apply the cleaner and give it a few minutes to loosen the buildup. This reduces the need for hard scrubbing, which can damage delicate finishes.
3. Wipe gently, then rinse
Use a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge in small circular motions. Rinse away cleaner residue with clean water, especially on shower glass and fixtures.
4. Dry the surface
Finish with a dry microfibre cloth. Removing leftover water helps slow the return of soap scum and water spots.
For natural stone, avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners unless the product label specifically says it is safe for stone.
Make it easier next time
A quick wipe after showering can make a big difference. Keep a squeegee or microfibre cloth nearby and clean small areas regularly before buildup becomes stubborn.
